When it comes to selling, you can’t overemphasise the importance of retail point of sale design. So many people are in the habit of browsing through the stores, whether they actually need to buy something or not. If you have the right point of sale design, it can prompt them to buy things on the spur of the moment.

Even if your customers didn’t realise that they needed that product before, they may realise its utility while they are browsing your retail store, if you have the right point of sale design. Or they might figure out that they can greatly increase their standard of living by buying what you’re selling.

Whether you’re selling something strictly utilitarian like a window AC or something more aesthetically pleasing like women’s clothing, there are many ways for you to improve your customer experience through quality retail point of sale design. Here are a few things that you can keep in mind:

Brightness

It’s very important for your retail environment to be as bright as possible. If you can let in some natural light, that’s great. If not, you can make sure you have diffuse lighting throughout the store. Remember that LED lights, in addition to being cost effective in the long run, are also more pleasing to the eye because their light is more like natural daylight.

It’s also a good idea to get creative with your lighting fixtures because this can give more aesthetic appeal to your retail store. Think of Urban Outfitters where the lights often have a retro look which is in line with the general theme of the store. Similarly, you can get lighting fixtures which will give your store an edge.

Space

It’s also a good idea to have more space in your retail store. Nowadays, the cost of retail space is quite high, so you may not always think it possible to have a spacious store. However, keep in mind that you can create the illusion of space with great point of sale design.

Many stores in urban areas create a mezzanine level which effectively gives them twice as much space as they have. You can also display your products at different levels; some of them can be closer to the ground while others are higher up. Grouping products together according to colour or theme also creates the illusion of more space. It gives your store a neater, organised look which eventually helps to improve customer experience.

Movement

People don’t just come to stores to look at inanimate goods. They also like the experience of watching other shoppers, interacting with salespeople or watching videos on display. They like the sense of life and movement that fills retail stores.

You can increase this sense of movement by creating wide aisles that encourage people to move around. The eye of the customer should be directed towards products which are on display. This can be done with the right lighting, sign-age, videos etc.

Do whatever you can do to create a sense of movement and you’ll find that your customers will keep coming back and, eventually, buying your products.

Theme

When you’re trying to create an aesthetically pleasing environment, you also need to have a theme for your retail space. Your point of sale design should reflect your product’s brand and your company’s image.

For example, if you’re trying to create a natural, holistic brand, you can have a peaceful, tranquil theme based on Zen principles. If your brand is fresh and youthful, you can go with a lively yet wholesome theme portraying the great outdoors.

Just think about how you want people to view your product within the coming five years and be sure to go with a theme that will promote that image.
